The 5th Asia-Pacific Blasting Technology Seminar and the 9th International Academic Conference on Rock Breaking Physics held in Zhoushan

From September 26 to 29, 2017, the 5th Asia-Pacific Blasting Technology Symposium and the 9th International Conference on Rock Breaking Physics was held in Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province. More than 190 representatives from China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Mongolia, the United States, Canada, Australia, and Spain gathered together to discuss the development of science and technology. The conference was jointly sponsored by China Blasting Industry Association and Institute of Mineral Resources, Russian Academy of Sciences, and jointly organized by the State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology and Dachang Construction Group Co., Ltd. From Beijing Institute of Technology.

Jose A. Sanchidrian, Chairman of the International Blasting Rocks Committee, Professor Sergey Victorov, Institute of Mineral Resources, Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the 5th Asian Blasting Technology Symposium and Honorary Chairman of the 9th International Academic Conference on Rock Breaking Physics, Professor Wang Xuguang all expressed warm congratulations on the convening of the meeting and separately delivered a speech. Professor Wang Cheng, Prof. Yang Jun, and postgraduate students of the State Key Laboratory of Explosive Science and Technology attended the meeting. Prof. Yang Jun served as the chairperson of the conference.

The conference provided a platform for Chinese and foreign scholars and the industry to discuss the opportunities, challenges and countermeasures that blasting technology and rock crushing physics are facing in the new century. It also predictedthe application prospects of blasting technology in various fields and has greatly strengthened the Asia Pacific region. The academic exchanges and technical cooperation between Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States have enhanced the interpenetration of various disciplines in various industries and promoted the development of world blasting technology and rock crushing physics.

The conference has published a collection of 94 papers, including 27 papers outside China, including Russia, India, Japan, the United States, Canada, Sweden, Indonesia, Australia, Spain, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, South Korea and other 12 countries. The collection of papers covers a wide range of topics including the industrial explosives, blasting equipment, rock fragmentation theory and technology, blasting vibration effects, blasting numerical simulation, blasting demolition (building) structures, and objects in the Asia Pacific region and Russia and the CIS countries in recent years. The latest scientific and academic achievements in the field of blasting safety and management also involved the aspects of carbon dioxide phase-change blasting, oil and gas well blasting, film and television fireworks, and provided insights for colleagues at home and abroad in the blasting industry.

The organizing committee meeting was also held. After the organizing committee's research and decision, the 6th Asia-Pacific Regional Blasting Technology Symposium and the 10th International Conference on Rock Breaking Physics will be held in Chongqing, China in 2020.

The atmosphere of the seminar was warm and the academic exchange was active. Representatives from participating countries thanked the host contractor for the favorable conditions created for the meeting. They thought that the seminar provided a good platform for academic exchanges and technical cooperation between delegates and promoted the development of demolition theory in the Asia Pacific region, Russia, and the Commonwealth of Independent States. They also expressed great expectations for the next meeting.
